What is Document Type Definition (DTD)?

What does DTD stand for?

Document kind defiNition (DTD) refers to a fixed of Markup Declarations that define a report type for Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) languages. DTDs outline the shape of a category of Files through element and Characteristic-list declarations. DTD allows Parsers validate documents. It is Formally recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). DTDs have now been in large part outdated via XML Namespace-conscious Schema languages.
