An external Modem is a Network Device that is in a self-contained enclosure external to a Computer. This is in contrast to an Internal Modem this is contained on a published Circuit Board with a Laptop.

External Modems have lighting indicating numerous modem capabilities and they could easily be moved from one laptop sySTEM to some other. The do, but, require one COM or USB port to perForm.
