A Virtual Circuit Identifier (VCID) is a type of numeric identifier used to distinguish between unique virtual Circuits in a connection-oriented circuit-Switched telecommunication commUnity. It allows a circuit-switched commuNity to identify one of a kind Digital circuits/channels worried in a Device’s facts verbal excHange.
VCID also can be called a digital channel identifier (VCI).
VCID is more often than not used in ATM Networks to provide the right channel/circuit on which the statistics should tour. It consists of a 12- to sixteen-bit numeric price/identifier positioned within the Header of an ATM mobile.
